Wesley is human, but somewhere deep within, he possesses a Gift for magic. He's years away from realizing that, however, so he thinks of himself solely as a student of occult knowledge and some book-learned rituals.

Wesley, unfortunately, is right on track for becoming one of the Watchers' Council's most embarrassing failures. He arrives shortly after his less than stellar performance in Sunnydale but just before his equally less than stellar idea of becoming a rogue demon hunter. The strained back he got during the graduation ceremony is a lot less painful than it used to be, but his gait is still a bit stiff. (Some might argue that's not the only thing to make him seem uptight.)

To say the least, Wesley is not at his best, just now. In fact, he's basically a poster child for self-doubt, and that's probably not going to make his adjustment to this strange new world any easier.
